By Neil Cameron

CELTIC’S towering striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has a dream of scoring a Zinedine Zidane goal at Hampden today in homage to the French genius.

But the way things have been going recently, the Dutchman would take a deflected effort from a few yards out, with a hint of offside about it, to beat St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Glittering silver

The Middle East have known the use of silver as a commodity for a long time yet. There is the Jewish shekel in the era before and during Christ in Palestine, and there is the dirham used by the Muslims during the time when Palestine was part of the Islamic empire. Today, silver has still not lost its glitter. Through Monex Deposit Company (MDC) you can purchase silver or other precious metals for immediate personal delivery or arrange for convenient and safe storage at an independent bank or depository. For over 30 years, the Monex companies have been America’s silver and precious metals investment leader. If you are interested in a long-term benefit, then check out Monex today.

LA Galaxy president “opens door” to ex-Real Madrid star Zidane

The door is still open to the legendary Zinedine Zidane to return to football and take up his boots once more. It remains to be seen if he will accept it. I really hope that he will ;)

LA Galaxy president Tim Leiweke has confirmed an offer is on the table for Zinedine Zidane to come out of retirement and join his ex-Real Madrid teammate David Beckham at the MLS club this year.

“We have contacted his entourage about coming to play for us this year,” Leiweke told Gazzetta dello Sport. “He knows our door will always be open. His contract won’t be a problem.”

Despite working to a salary cap, Leiweke says the Galaxy are cleared to sign Zidane and Beckham for this MLS season, which kicked off last weekend.

Galaxy move for Zidane

There is still talk about the LA Galaxy move for Zinedine Zidane. Will it really come to pass?

The LA Galaxy general manager, Alexi Lalas, has confirmed the club have made an offer to Zinédine Zidane to join David Beckham at the club. “He’s a great player and we’d love to have him” he said.

“We’ll see what happens - you can tell he’s looking for an opportunity, whether it’s in LA or MLS [Major League Soccer] we’ll see, but it would be wonderful to have a Beckham and Zidane team.”

Capella University

There are various opportunities in higher education these days, seeing that this is the 21st century. Monopoly in education via traditional education institutions is nowadays a thing of the past. With the advent of the Internet, the World Wide Web and its accommodating technologies, there are various ways where one can further his or her education without physically going to a classroom or having to look for accommodation in order to attend a university or college. Distance learning is not a new thing but the Internet have changed the way it is conducted, via interactive learning and live video conferencing at a cheaper cost. One may now take an education course with an online university such as Capella University. Check out the details at the website, I am sure you will be interested.

Cantona Blames French Boss For World Cup

Eric Cantona believes coach Raymond Domenech and not Zinedine Zidane should be blamed for France’s World Cup final defeat by Italy last year. Maybe he should wear nursing uniforms then. Haha.

Italy prevailed 5-3 in a penalty shootout after Zidane had been sent off in extra time for a headbutting offence on Marco Materazzi. The score after 120 minutes was 1-1. However, Cantona believes that Domenech’s negative tactics and not Zidane’s loss of control were the reasons for the defeat. Former France international and Manchester United legend Cantona told L’Equipe magazine: “Domenech lost the match.

“From the start of the second half, the Italians refused to attack.

“When you see (Thierry) Henry have to come to get the ball and cross and there is no-one in the penalty area to get on the end - what’s the point of having four defenders and two defensive midfielders. “It’s a serious, very serious tactical mistake. Worse than Zidane’s headbutt.”

Zidane’s new zest for futsal

Zidane’s new zeal is into futsal now, and he simply loves the game. Interesting, no?

Having spent five years at Real Madrid CF Zinédine Zidane knows all about bringing European glory to Spain - just as UEFA Futsal Cup final four hosts ElPozo Murcia FS and Madrid-based holders Boomerang Interviú will be trying to do over the next few days.

Zidane, of course, found fame in the eleven-a-side game, but since he retired, he has had time to discover the small-sided discipline. Last month the 34-year-old took part in a well-attended event in Paris, lining up with some of his team-mates from France’s 1998 FIFA World Cup-winning side in a futsal tournament. It was not new to him though. “I had seen it during my stay in Madrid as it is a very well known sport in Spain,” Zidane told uefa.com.
